Bird’s Nest Transformed into Hotel

(2010-02-01 01:13:31)

The Bird’s Nest will renovate its north section into a hotel this year, a major source of income, according to development plans from the stadium released this weekend.

A round corridor outside the bleachers from the third floor to the sixth floor as well as the first basement level, totaling 11,000 square meters, will be renovated into 80 hotel rooms, 137 square meters a room. The basement level will be renovated into a hotel lobby, said Yang Cheng, vice general manager of the National Stadium Company yesterday.

According to Yang, when the hotel rooms are finished, they will become a major source of income for the Bird’s Nest given the gains from ticket sales, tourism, sports venues and commercial performances.

He added that the Bird’s Nest will form an independent system of business, creating a reliable source of income.

Yang said that in winter guests can stay in rooms that overlook the stadium and will be able to see the ski slopes.

Still, most of the planned income will come from ticket sales. The Bird’s Nest has made over 370 million yuan ($54.33 million) so far, and 70 percent of that is from turnover on ticket sales.

Yang added that the over 40,000 square meters on the ground and the over 30,000 square meters of basement will be used efficiently. The southern section will also be renovated into a high-end club and the east section will be built into a dinning hall. The 1,500 square meters on the first floor will be built into franchise shops for the high-end sports items.
