Transportation suggestion |
To enter Tibet, flights, railway, highways are the main transport modes. |
By flight |
It is more easier and more comfortable by flight. Air- tickets to Lhasa can be obtained from airlines in Chengdu, Beijing, Chongqing, Xi’an, Xining, Shanghai -La (Zhongdian) and Kathmandu with the Tibet Travel Permit. |
By train |
Qinghai-Tibet Railway was opened greatly to take more advantages to enter Tibet. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway, starting in Xining, the capital of Qinghai province, and ending in Lhasa, began full operation from July 1st 2006. It symbolizes Tibet's historical inaccessibility via railway. The total distance from Lhasa to Xining by railway is 1,956 kilometers, and it
is the world's highest railway extending for the longest distance through a plateau of permanent frost. |
By road |
However, if you want to experience more plateau scenery and challenge your endurance and physical power, highway is a good choice. |
