Transportation


Air:
With advanced aviation facilities, Shanghai has two large international airports, the Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airports, and owns over 300 air routes that leave Shanghai for all the large and medium-sized cities in China and the main cities of more than 20 countries and regions in the world. Over 30 Chinese and foreign airlines have entered the Shanghai aviation market.
Situated in the Pudong New Area, the Pudong International Airport is the first-class airport in the world, and all the international scheduled flights entering and leaving Shanghai take off and land here. It is about 30km from the city proper, and it is a one-hour drive.
Situated in the western suburbs of Shanghai, the Hongqiao Airport is mainly for domestic planes to take off and land. It is about 13km form the city proper of Shanghai, with convenient transportation facilities.

Railways:
Shanghai has three railway stations: Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai West Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station. Of them, the Shanghai Railway Station, which is close to Hengfeng Road, is the main passenger station, with a great number of trains going to all the large and medium sized cities in China everyday.

Waterway / Ferry:
Expo Shanghai-WaterwayShanghai has developed waterways. The Shanghai Port, an important passenger port open to marine and inland river navigation, is busy everyday. Passenger ships go regularly from Shanghai to Inchon and Pusan of South Korea, and to Osaka and Kobe of Japan. The marine passenger and freight ships that depart from the Shanghai Port can reach over 400 ports of more than 160 countries and regions.

Cross-river ferries: two VIP docks, six ferry piers, five common shipping routes and one VIP shipping route are set up at the riverbank. The 5 common shipping routes have the capacity to transfer 20,000-24,000 visitors during the peak hour.

Metro Lines / Tunnels:
Shanghai has opened eight Metro lines, by the dawn of the 2010 World Expo, Shanghai will have 12 Metro lines in service. Three stations and two sections are set up for World Expo metro lines. It is a two-line operation, capable to transport 40,000 visitors during the peak hour. During the Expo, Shanghai will have 200,000 more visitors per day and 400,000 on the busiest days. The subway system will be expanded to 400 kilometers by that time and will shoulder nearly half of the flow.
Metro lines 4,6,7 and 8 will have a stop at the Expo site, and No.13 will be the trunk line within the 5.28 square kilometer Expo site.

The tunnels for the exclusive Metro line for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo ticket holders and staff, have already completed, it is link Shanghai’s landmark entertainment center, Xintiandi, to the Expo zone with a short train ride.

Shuttle Bus in the Expo site:
The first one is the cross-river line covering 14 kilometers. Vehicles go along the borderline of the Enclosed Area and bus stations are arranged on one side, 1 in Puxi and 4 in Pudong. A total of 130 passenger buses (12-meter-long) will be available.
The second is Puning Road line: it takes the visitor flow inside Pudong Site. The total length of the line is 4.6 kilometers with 5 stations on both sides. 36 passenger buses (12-meter-long) will be put into operation.
The third and fourth lines are supporting lines especially for the short-distance transportation in the Pudong area within the Park. The vehicles are kinds of low-speed sightseeing buses and the distance between each station is around 100 meters. The one-way bus of North Ring Road is about 2.5 kilometers and that of skywalk is about 2.4 kilometers.
