Tuojiang River
Tuojiang River is one of the branches of Wushui River. Originating from Nanshan Gorge of Dusha, Kuhe. It is 131 kilometers in length, among which 96.9 kilometers is in Fenghuang County, with the drainage are of 732.42 square kilometers.
Tuojiang River is the mother river of the ancient city Fenghuang. It runs slowly along the city walls, nurturing the people of the city for generations. Fenghuang is a small town in central China's Hunan Province. It is a famous historic and cultural city, which was originally built in the early Qing Dynasty and maintains its initial appearance after three hundred years of vicissitude.
Women are usually seen washing their clothes by the river, wearing traditional Chinese leaf or
bamboo hat. Men are fond of wearing ancient Chinese waistcoat, fishing in the river. Stone bridges, winding flagstone paths, wooden waterwheels and beautiful Miao ethic girls and Tujia ethic girls in their traditional costumes.
You may feel unique lingering charm when you get on board in a boat, listen to the songs of woman who stand in another boat and enjoy the suspension buildings of Tu Minority with a history of over 100 years.
As you go downstream through the Rainbow Bridge, a picture of water town south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River will spread in front of you: the Wanshou Palace, the Wonming Tower, the Duocui Building, and so on and so forth. The water is clear, watercourse shallow and the stream flows slow in the Tuojiang River, that you could even see the float grasses flaunting in the gentle ripples.
The ancient city wall along the south bank of the Tuo Jiang River is built by mauve stones and sands, which is elegant and marvelous. There are two ancient city towers in distinct Qing Dynasty style constructed at the east part and the north part of the city wall respectively. The river water is limpid and shallow in the areas approaching to the city wall where float grass can be seen flickering in the green waves. Everything is in an air of leisure and tranquility.
