Dehang Miao Minority Village
Dehang, meaning "beautiful valley" in Miao language, is situated 24 kilometers in the west suburbs from Jishou city, capital of Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Xiangxi.
In this area, lives the Miao nationality. They speak Miao dialect, boys and girls are free for love, and they exchange feelings and love with songs. Women like to wear silver wares, and wear broidery blouse with flower designs but without collar. Boys like to wear leg wrappings, and blow wood leaves as musical instruments. The local people like to raise silk worms. They make their own textiles, and the local hand textiles are extremely well made. They use the traditional way for oil extraction, papermaking, rice grinding, and they use special wheel with buckets to lift water for irrigation.
In this scenic spot, there are programs such as being guest in Miao family, exchange songs at the gate, offering wines, Miao song and dance party, Miao drum dance, saying good-bye to guests with lantern, and many other nationality travel projects. Tourists can also extract oil by themselves, make papers, wearing cloth, grind rice, and to become a Miao people for one day. Coming to Dehang for a tour is just like coming to a beautiful and ancient fairy-tale world.
There are more than 30 folklore travel items of Tongcaobai Festival, being guest in Miao family, singing in antiphonal style at the doorway, proposing toast, dancing with song evening party of Miao people, corroboree, drum dance of Miao people, seeing off the guest with torches and so on. Traveling at Dehang, you may fully experience the ancient folklore and the beauty of the nature by extracting oil, making paper, weaving, and milling rice yourself. You will feel that you have stepped into a beautiful and old fairy world.
Dehang is actually set, in some of the most picturesque countryside in China. Attractions include the Jielong Bridge, Liusha Waterfall, the Nine Dragons Waterfall, the Nine Dragons Stream and Jade Fountain Gate, it is more traditional and un-spoilt than other better known destinations.
In the morning and afternoon there are free cultural performances in Dehang village, showcasing Miao drum dancing, singing, traditional costuming and wedding customs. After lots of hiking, this gives you the perfect chance to sit back and relax you aching muscles.
