Qinghai Lake


Qinghai Lake Located in the northeast of the 4,500-metre-high Qinghai-Tibet plateau, Qinghai Lake is a blue mirror
nestled between snowy mountains and grasslands. Measuring 4,400 square kilometers, it is the
largest inland saltwater lake in China.

Qinghai Lake since about 200 to 20 million years ago because of crustal movement and the
formation of a rift lake, the lake water into the Yellow River began, due to the surrounding mountains

It is located about 100 km west of the provincial capital of Xining at 3,205 m above sea level in a
depression of the Tibetan Plateau in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo. Twenty-three rivers and
streams empty into Qinghai Lake.

Numerous birds in Qinghai Lake, a major varieties of Bar-headed Goose, fish gulls, brown head gulls, cormorants, red brown, and so more than
10 species, gathered each spring to the island. Lake has Hoi Shan, Hercynian Hill, three stone and other islands. These islands are a paradise
for birds, crowded around the cliff cliff nest, eggs are abound. Lake also live in a kind of naked carp, also known Hehuang fish without scales,
known locally as the King of the Lake, a famous seafood.

Besides being a sanctuary for winter birds that hatch their young here, Qinghai Lake is the largest natural fish reservoir in all of northwest China.
Every April and May, massive numbers of fish swim to the nearby rivers to spawn.

Qinghai Lake There are a number of ethnic groups who live around Qinghai Lake and whose existence is dependent
on the future of the lake. These include Han, Mongolian and Tibetan ethnic groups. They are all united in
the single aim of protecting the lake and the land which surrounds it.

From summer to early autumn the prairie is a lush green carpet. Thereafter the fields of oilseed rape
ripen to a bright yellow, spreading a sweet scent in the air. The rape fields intersperse with the grass,
creating a breathtakingly beautiful patchwork of yellows and greens that contrast sharply with the blues of
the sky and the lake. The climate on the prairie is mild, though in winter, the mountains are covered in
snow.
