Qinghai Folk Custom Museum
Qinghai Folk Custom Museum (Xin Lu) is located at the east district of Xining. The house is used to be the Former Residence of Mabufang, who was a warlords in northwest China.
This folk custom museum started built in the 40’ s of the 20th century, it is the most best preserved ancient construction with typical regional character in Qinghai Province. People call it “the residence of jade” because most of the buildings were made of jade. This construction has high history value, and it was awarded the prize of the Province Key Relics Protection Units by Qinghai government in 1986.
The whole museum covers an area of nearly 30000 square meters, and the area of structure is more than
6000 square meters. It has 290 houses, six courtyards (front courtyard, behind courtyard, south courtyard, three west courtyards), and one backyard garden, with 10-meter mud wall surround the whole construction. Design refinement, fine craftwork, it is a classic example of the folk house of northwest china.
In the folk custom museum, tourists can find out the history and the life situation in those years, and also can know better about the folk customs and ethnic customs of the Qinghai altiplano through these exhibitions: Qishi Exhibition Hall, Jade Exhibition Hall, Civilian House, Folk Custom Exhibition Hall, Old Oil Mill, Ancient Grinding Mill and so on.
The Folk Custom Exhibition Hall have different display hall of Tibetan, Tu Nationality, Hui Nationality, Mongolian Nationality, etc. You can intuitively feel the ethnic culture and life style of different nationalities.
Qinghai Folk Custom Museum shows the gorgeous cultures and customs of the nationalities those who developed and constructed Qinghai, helped to promote the society and history progress. The museum has quite high value of ornamental and history.
