Xiaqiong Lamasery
Xiaqiong Lamasery is also called “ShaChong monastery”, it is situated in Hualong Hui Nationality Autonomous County, 170km far away from Xining. It is one of the five greatest monasteries of the yellow sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Qinghai and renowned for the many buildings and the good location.
Xiaqiong Lamasery is also one of the oldest monasteries in Qinghai ,was founded in 1349 by QuJieDunZhuRenQin, the first teacher of tsongkhapa. At the height of the monastery’s glory, the number of monks peaked at over 4130 (including 26attics), there were 75 temples in it. The total area of the monastery was 20 hectares.
After dedicated efforts of many masters and a lot of believers of high spiritual achievement who
continuously devoted themselves to the renovation and expansion of this monastery, Xiaqiong Lamasery has developed into a group of monastic buildings.
Now there are 75 temples, 755 houses for monks, 224 Buddhists (including 4 living Buddha). There are four main Institutes in the monastery, the institutes of the Sutra, tantra, Tibetan medicine, and Kalachakra. Numerous impressive historical relics and a vast collection of Buddhist text are preserved in this monastery .
Xiaqiong Lamasery is one of the most influential monasteries in Qinghai and Tibet. More and more tourists want to visit it.
