Huangpu River, 97 km long, the most important shipping artery of Shanghai, wriggles like an undulating muddy dragon from the mouth of the Yangtze River in Wusong to the East China Sea.
Although the yellow and ice-free Huangpu River is only about 400 meter wide and 9 meter deep, it sustains about one third of the China's total international trade. It is also a major water source for Shanghai.

The Bund, is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. It begins at the estuary of Suzhou Creek in the north and ends at Jinling Road in the south, with a total length of 1.5 kilometers.
Originally, the Bund was a center for foreign trade, where foreign firms were numerous. From the end of the 19th century, many foreign and Chinese banks were built on the Bund, turning it into a 'finance street' also known as 'Eastern Wall Street'. Thereafter, the Bund became very valuable land and a sought after location. Bankers and businessmen from various countries congregated along the Bund, constructing their offices and headquarters on a large-scale. Architects from different countries took the opportunity to display their courage and skill on the Bund, and soon over 20 major buildings with distinctive architectural styles sprang up, hence the Bund also enjoys fame as a “Museum of International Architecture”.
The most famous and attractive sight which is at the west side of the Bund are the 52 various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance. The wide riverfront promenade on the east bank of the river provides a captivating view of Shanghai, particularly at night.
Being one of the Top Ten Shanghai Attractions, the Bund is a really beautiful and special place which is worth visiting.
