Yellow River Scenic Area
The Yellow River is the second largest river in China. Thousands of years ago, Chinese civilization emerged from the Yellow River's central basin. Since then this great river has nourished millions of people. If you want to see this mighty river and its surrounding landscape, then come to the Zhengzhou Yellow River Scenic Area.
The Yellow River Scenic Area is located 30 km to the northwest of the Zhengzhou City with the
Yellow River running on the north and the Yueshan Mountain standing on the south. With green trees, pavilions, winding rivers and pretty hills, it enjoys a fame of beautiful view.
A number of cultural points are in the park. The western end of the park contains the historic battle
site where Liu Bang (who later became Emperor Gauzu) defeated Xiang Yu to cement his rule in 202 B.C. as the first emperor of the Han Dynasty.
The Yellow River rushes out of the last gorge from here and into the plain areas and later turns into a river with its bed higher than the ground
outside the banks. Therefore, watching the Yellow River here is very special. As seen from a high point in this scenic area, the mighty Yellow River rushes by and demonstrates tremendous force with rolling and falling of the river's torrents. Sometimes in its thousands of miles, the river reaches wide endless plains where currents flow smoothly, and sometimes it meets precipitous mountains where it has to zigzag its way.
Pavilions of classic style scatter in an artistic way on mountain ridges of the Wulong Peak Scenic Area, the center of the Yellow River Scenic Area, which lies southward. At the foot of the Wulong Peak, a sculpture of an elegant lady holding a baby with kindness and peace, named “Nurturing”, embodies that the Yellow River functions as the cradle of the Chinese civilization. Other resorts are the Yueshan Temple, Five Dragons Peak, Camel Mountain Range, Stone Figures of Yandi and Huangdi, Ancient City of Liu Bang
and Xiang Yu, etc.
Hovercrafts and speedboats are popular on the Yellow River at the park. The park is home to China's large fleet of tourist-use hovercrafts.
