Luoyang Folk Art Museum
Located on the west bank of Nanya River on the Dongguan Xin Street in Luoyang, Luoyang Folk Art Museum was built up in 1744, the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty.
The museum houses 1,879 pieces of cultural relics, 4 pieces of which are of the national first class, including a gilded Buddha statue of 3.5 meters tall made in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and a wooden tower of 6 meters tall constructed in the Qing Dynasty, both of which are exhibited in the Belief Hall. There are 304 statues of great artistic value. Other exhibition halls include the Embroidery Hall, the Hall of Folk Arts, and the Hall of Wedding Custom.
The Embroidery Hall exhibits all kinds of fancyworks, including costumes, embroidered capes, thin silk skirt, and purses, etc.
The Hall of Folk Arts displays woodcarving, shadow plays, and paper-cuts, etc. These embroideries not only beautified people's life, but also expressed people's happy desire. The common pomegranate symbolizes more children and more happiness, the fish playing with lotus represents successive good harvest.
The Hall of Wedding Custom exhibits the marriage scene and the nuptial chamber arrangement in Qing Dynasty. The bashful bride, simple and honest bridegroom, the wedding attendants with smile, the naughty children displayed a grand marriage scene. The nuptial chamber is old-time with mandarin duck satin quilt and brilliant embroidery on fragrant pillow whereby tourists could admire. The folk musician holds each kind of musical instrument standing nearby.
Hall of Longevity Custom is a rebuilt longevity hall. The god of longevity, the large and oblong sheet of silk and peaches offered as birthday present. The decoration is plain, solemn and respectful. The god of longevity is always smiling. The congratulatory guests are well-mannered, bow to him to bless him.
During the occasion of flower fair every year, a temple fair is held to exhibit Luoyang's folk culture. In the west chamber, you will view scenes of family reunion, birthday celebration for children and other customers in ancient times, and local operas.
