Tomb of Yusup Hazi Hajup
Tomb of Yusup Hazi Hajup is located at the Tiyu Road, Kashgar City, with an area of 965 square meters. Opened to the public on 1988.
The tomb is a monument to 11th-century Uighur poet and philosopher Yusup Hazi Hajup, who born in 1019, died around 1080. He was born in Balashagun in Karakhanid Dynasty, and later immigrated to Kashgar.
After he died, he was buried in Badige, outside the city of Kashgar. Then his tomb was moved to its present site when it was threatened by the flooding of the Toman River.
On 1070, Yusup Hazi Hajup wrote a long poem “Fu Le Zhi Hui”, which is included polity, economy, literature, history, geography, mathematics and
medicine, it is a great history document, have huge influence about the aftertime literary produce.
Facing south, the tomb is rectangular shape, the main gate is 4.2 meters wide and 8 meters high. There have two 8.7-meter high columniform minarets on the two sides of the gate. The whole tomb is consist of three parts: complex of the tomb, doorway, tomb hall.
The Tomb Hall is a construction with round shape roof inside, but square shape outside, and there is a 11 meters high tower locate in the middle of the roof. The great man is laid on the middle of the floor, with colorful glazed tile covered on the coffin.
The Pray Hall is situated at the west side, and there have about 10 towers at the east side. The whole complex of the tomb brings something of an Arabian touch to Western China, with its minarets and dome, covered with white and blue tiles, and the beautiful wood carving on the pillars, they are all the nonesuch of the Islamic constructions in Xinjiang, showing the outstanding craft and capacity.
It is a pleasant place to spend a few minutes, the rose garden and tomb serve to remind of Kashgar's historic connection to the Islamic heartland.
