Tunxi Old StreetSituated in the center of Tunxi District with a long history dating back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
The Old Street is 1.5 kilometers long and 7 meters wide.

Currently, Tunxi Old Street still keeps the architectural style of Song dynasty and the original street
appearance of Ming and Qing dynasties. The traditional tea building, restaurants, book shops, ink or
ink-stone buildings and the traditional steles bring you back to the ancient times.


Row upon row of shops built along the street orderly, all half-timbered, with white wall, and covered by
grey tiles. Beautiful carvings are found on the windows and door lintels of the street houses. Most of the
houses on the street have several doors to be walked through to reach the last rooms, their
passageways are dark and narrow, but there are dooryards for lighting. The unique high horse-head walls separate the shops, which show the
beauty of the Anhui-style architectural complex.

There are tens of old and famous shops in the old street. The Tongderen was a Chinese traditional medicine shop. It was established in the
second year of the Tongzhi Period of the Qing dynasty, with a history of over 120 years. Qimen black tea and Tunxi green tea which are famous in
the world mostly distribute in Tunxi. All kinds of Anhui ink stick and Shexian ink stone can be found here. Products of "Huizhou Four Carvings"
(brick, wood, stone and bamboo), Chinese painting in Anhui style, print, rubbing from a stone inscription, Goldstone seal cutting, Chinese pot
gardening and root carving can be seen here and there. Old Huizhou culture shows its charming spirit. It's regarded as an art gallery of  excellent
national culture.

Here people can buy the best tourist souvenirs in all styles and with most reasonable price, including
Chinese painting in Anhui style, print, rubbing from a stone inscription, Goldstone seal cutting, Chinese
pot gardening and root carving ink stone and so on.

All in all, when you trip to Huangshan you should not miss Tunxi Old Street because it is a window to see
through the culture of Anhui and a natural photo studio of southern China. Its enchantment has
overwhelmed all the tourists from home and abroad!
