Huitengxile Grassland

Huitengxile Grassland

Huitengxile GrasslandThe Mongolian meaning of this grassland’s name is "the cold, high plane".

Cold in winter and cool in summer, Huitengxile Grassland has an average highest temperature of 18 centigrade. Lying over 1800 meters above the sea level, it stretches over 100 kilometers from east to west, dotted by 99 natural lakes.

The Huanghua Ditch is about 25 kilometers west. There are small, yellow flowers covering the mountains. The landscape has erect cliffs and pure, cascading springs. This, set against the boundless grassland and the beautiful delicate color of the Jiangnan water-village, is a magnificent sight.

Blue sky and white clouds merge with the vast and open Grassland on the horizon. Deep grass covers parts of the landscape but is not everywhere. The grass is usually half-shoe high and not as lush as before because of a lack of rainfall, deforestation and erosion of desert. In contrast to other famous sites of Inner Mongolia Grassland around Hohhot, Huitengxile grass grows full by the end of June.

There’s lots to see and do on the Huitengxile Grassland. From caving in the Muelitu Gully and Heishan Mountain’s 99 grottoes to visiting the grassland’s numerous hot springs. Tourists can enjoy a wide variety of entertainments including horse riding, camel riding, shooting, archery, Mogolian wrestling, or you can choose to climb the Aobao Mountain, visit a herdsmen’s house, tasting the ethnical favor of milk food like milk tea, hare’s milk wine and so on.
