Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall
Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall is a national major cultural relic of Guangdong Province, which is built in order to commemorate the contributions of Sun Zhongshan, the great predecessor of Chinese revolution for democracy. It is a memorial construction donated by the people in Guangzhou and the overseas Chinese. Designed by the famous Chinese architect, Mr. Lu Yanzhi, the construction started in 1929 and finished in October of 1931.
In the front of the memorial hall, there erects the statue of Mr. Sun Zhongshan. And there hangs a golden slab with four Chinese characters of "Tian Xia Wei Gong" written by Sun Yat-sen himself above the front door of the memorial hall. With the statue and the slab reflecting and corresponding to each other, there forms a magnificent scene which reminds people of the brilliant life experience of the great man.
Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is composed of the arch over the gateway, the memorial hall (the main building) and accessory buildings which are located to the east and west of the Hall. The ancient imperial Palace accounts for 12000m2 out of the total 6 hectares of the whole complex.
Surrounded by Column-style aisles in four directions, the Memorial Hall (the main construction) is an octagonal building made of steel frame with reinforced concrete framework. In all four directions of the roof with sapphire blue glaze tiles sits a saddle rooftop with an octagonal pointed roof covering the central area.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is one of most symbolic buildings of Guangzhou, and it is also a major site for great convention and performance, a tourist attraction to visitors from home and abroad.
Since 1949, the Government of China has overhauled the building and the surrounding environment for more than seven times. Today, you will find modern facilities inside this memorial hall. If you travel to the City of Guang Zhou, this historic site is one that you do not want to ignore.
