Wang Fu Jing Street
Along the 810-metre-long street and in an area of about 810 square meters are over 200 shops.
A 60-member clean-up team for a single commercial area might have been remarkable in
scale in Beijing.

There are the famous Wangfujing Department Store, Xin Dong’an Market, Dongfang Plaza,
Wang Fu Jing Hotel, Overseas Chinese Building, Quan Ju De Roast Duck, Dong Lai Shun
Instant-boiled Mutton, etc along the street.

Among them, Xin Dong’an Market has a shopping floor of 100,000 square meters and offers
200,000 kinds of goods. Nearby there is Dong’anmen Street, which is noted for its night market
(open 6-10 pm). It sells delicious snacks from many parts of China and attracts many visitors.

At night, when Wangfujing street turns on its ever increasing number of neon advertising signs, even more crowds flock to soak up the
atmosphere.  The lights can now be compared to those of any major city in the world and are very popular with the tourists, especially those
coming from less developed parts of China.  Most shops stay open till around 9pm and sometimes an impromptu night market.

Wang Fu Jing StreetIn spite of being modern and new, the renovated Wangfujing Street has retained its traditional cultural
atmosphere. The street is a kind of beauty perfectly combining tradition, modernity, culture and commerce.
With a group of sculptures depicting the lives of the people of Beijing in the old times was established in front
of the modern New Dong An Plaza, a 70-square-metre relief sculpture recalling the operation of the 12 old
famous shops in the area was set on the southern wall of the Women' s Department Store. Also the ancient
well, from which the street got its name, was also symbolically restored.

Wangfujing area has become the city's central business district because of its easy access to major roads,
high land prices and high density of retail and service business, as well as its high degree of population flow.
Nowadays, the Wangfujing area has been formed naturally in the city's centre, in much the same way as most
central business districts have sprung up in other international cities.
