Jiangsu is a tourist – city – Incentive province. There are 4 state – level and 9 province – listed
scenic spots. Among the 13 tourist cities there are 7 state – listed famous cultural and historic cities.
Their notable characteristic is “old” and “water”. Nanjing was old capitals of six dynasties. There are
Ming Xiao Mausoleum, Zhongshan Maosoleum, old city walls, the Confucian Temple and the
beautiful scenery of Qinhuai River and the Yangtze Bridge. The old gardens in Suzhou are finest under
heaven,which melt in the scenery of the region of rivers and lakes of Gusu; around Wuxi there are Lake
Taihu, Grand Canal, Film – TV Center, and old gardens; Yangzhou has Lean West Lake; at Zhenjiang
there are Jinshan Hill, Qiaoshan Hil, and Ganlu Temple, Changshu, Nantong, Changzhou and Huaian
are all noted cultural and historic cities with the characteristic of “old” and “water”. Zhangjiagang
is a new civilized city. All these have formed a city – Incentive belt in the Yangtze Delta.
Each of them is noted for its traditional handicrafts and food. To the north is Xuzhou, an old city, and Lianyungang. Xuzhou has its
characteristic of the strategic point in different dynasties and the ancient culture of West Han Dynasty, Lianyungang and Yuntai Mountain
are noted for their seashore scenery and old legends. Yancheng is the protection zone and watching place for the red-crowned crane
and the wapiti. The special tours in Jiangsu are rich, such as Study Tour, Old Grand Canal Tour, Bell – Knocking on the New Year's Eve
at Hanshan Temple, Moon – watching on the Taihu Lake, Xuxiake’s Former Residence, and etc.
Capital: Nanjing
Known as Jinling in old days, Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu. Strategically situated on the Yangtze, with a moist climate, its terrain
rendered majesty by the mountains in the background, it is also the province's political, economic, cultural and transportation center.
Nanjing today looks at once new and old-new due to the ongoing modernization drive, and old because it is already 2,460 years old,
and, as one of the nation's seven ancient capitals, it was the capital city for 10 feudal dynasties or regimes.
