The Yangtze and Hanshui rivers converge at Hubei Province's capital, Wuhan, a tripartite city consisting of Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang, and a major waterway, highway and airway transportation centre lauded as "Thoroughfare of nine Provinces".
Wuhan is a city with both an ancient history and a thriving present. Historic relics like ancient tombs tell the city’s long history dating back 3,500 years. Yellow Crane Tower stands on the top of Sheshan. It was originally built in the Three Kingdom Period. In the old days it was a gathering place for men of letters. From the top of the tower one can enjoy a spectacular view. And also, the famous Villa of Chairman Mao Zedong on the scenic bank of East Lake.
