Taiyuan       Shanxi Province


Located in the central part of Shanxi Province, Taiyuan is an old city which bounded on
three sides by mountains. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Shanxi.

It was formerly called Jingyang, originally built at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period
with a history of over 2400 years. On account of its long history, there are cultural relics and
places of interest all over the Taiyuan area. Jin Memorial Temple, located at the food of the
Xuanweng Mountain to the southwest of Taiyuan, was built over 1500 years. Shuangta Si
has become a symbol of Taiyuan on account of its unique architecture.

At present, Taiyuan is one of China’s heavy industrial cities and account for more than
half the national coal mining output. As a provincial transportation hub, Taiyuan has
convenient public transport systems. It generally considered just a stopover or those heading south to the ancient imperial capital, Xi'an,
or those trecking north to the grottoes near Datong and the sacred Buddhist mountain of Wutaishan.

Taiyuan has many local delicacies such as the Tou Nao, the Steamed Dumpling, Sausages and Mutton Soup, you should try it. And also
the local vinegar is high reputed all over China.
