Golmud is located at the west of Qinghai Province, in Qingzang Altiplano, Qaidam Basin.
Golmud situated in the middle of Eurasia, the physiognomy is intricacy, the south is higher
than the north. Kunlun Mountain and Tanggula Mountain are throughout the all city, high
and steep. A number of Jokuls, glaciers, rivers and lakes among the city.
Golmud is the intersect of Qingzang, Qingxin, Dunge highway and the Qingzang Railway,
so it is the transport hinge of the west of Qinghai, the distributing center and important
transfer station from Tibet to the other city of east China.
Qaidam Basin is called “the basin of treasures”, the mineral resources are enrichment,
besides, there are also abundant soil, tourist, wildness animal and plant resource. In
addition, the Caerhan Salt Lake is located in the Qaidam Basin, it is the biggest salt lake in China, and also one of the most famous
inland salt lake in the world.
The highest peak in Tanggula Mountain is Geladandong Peak, it is the headstream of Yangtze River. The scenery there is very
spectacularity, jokuls and glaciers, blue sky and white clouds, boundless grassland, you can definitely relax and enjoy yourself.
The region of Tanggula Mountain is the nature reserve zone of wildness plant and animal in Qinghai Province. So there have a number
of rare species such as wild yak, snow leopard, etc.
