Dongba Wood Carving

A wood handicraft bearing words of the hieroglyphic language of the Naxi ethnic group, the dongba wood carving is from the Lijiang Naxi
Autonomous County of Yunnan Province. Dongba which means wise man, is the title of the men in charge of memorial ceremonies of the Naxis.
The hieroglyphic language they used to compose the Dongba Classics is known as the wood and stone record. Even nowadays, there are people
who understand and use the language, which is cited by people in the international academic circles as “the only completely-preserved living
hieroglyphic language” in the world. The Naxi folk artists make wood carvings which bear words of the language. The carving is loved by the
people.
