Olympics to boost tourism in Beijing

(2008-1-3 16:27:07)

Monday marked the official start to the year of tourism for the Beijing Olympics. More than 200 German tourists got a rousing welcome when they arrived as the very first guests of the year to the Chinese capital.

Upon arrival at the Beijing Capital International Airport, the German tourists were warmly greeted by officials from the China State Administration of Tourism. Flowers were presented, and even the Olympic mascots, the Fu Wa, turned up to welcome them.

German Travel Agency Manager said "We feel honored to personally experience the Olympic atmosphere in Beijing. This is our first trip to the city, and more than 80 other groups are still due to arrive."

The State Tourism Administration says activities throughout the year will focus on promoting the Olympic spirit, upgrading public services and introducing Chinese culture to the rest of the world.

Beijing is expected to accommodate up to 4.6 million tourists in the year ahead. And local authorities are also encouraging visitors to travel to other key tourist destinations across the country.(source:CCTV.com)
