Nagqu
Nagqu, also called North Tibet Plateau, is located in north Tibet, with an elevation of more than 4,500 meters. 338 km south to Lhasa, it is the joint point of Qinghai-Tibet Highway, Sichuan-Tibet North Highway, and the Black River Highway. The transportation is convenient, and the scenery is unique. It will give you an impressive tour with the Ruins of Zhangzhung Regime, the monasteries of Bon Sect, and the Holy Lake Namco. You can also learn about the daily life of the herdsman on the plateau.
Namco Lake
Located to the northwest of Damxung County, Namco is the biggest saltwater lade in the would, and is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. The surface of lade rises 4,718 meters above sea level. It is 72 km long from east to west, 30 km wide from south to north, and covers an area of 1,940 square meters. Namco owns the extremely sacred status in Tibetan’s eyes. Every Goat Year of Tibetan calendar, pilgrims from thousands miles away will go on the painstaking way to join the grand festival of the ritual walk around Namco Lake.
Mt. Nyainqentanglha
It is a huge mountain chain extending 600 km, forming the watershed between the Yarlung Zangbo River and Nujiang River. Its highest peak stands in Damxung County, and rises 7,162 m above sea level. There are more than 30 peaks with the elevation of more than 6,000m around it.
Changtang Prairie

The prairie is located among the Kunlun Mountains, the Tanggula Mountains, and the Kangdese Shan-Nyainqentanglha Mountains. It accounts for 2/3 of the total area of Tibetan Autonomous Region, and the average elevation is more than 4,500 m. The scenery of Changtang Prairie is unique and charming. It is the habitat of thousand kings of wild animals, among them, 40 kinds have been listed in the national or regional key protected species.
Xainza Nature Reserve
Near Xainza County of Nagqu, this protection area is the habitat of more than 120 kinds of birds. The scene is fantastic with all kinds of birds hovering and dancing together. It is also the reproduction place for the rare black-neck crane.
