Hunan province is well known for its noted mountains and persons. Zhangjiajie has been listed in the world natural heritage list. The state – level scenic areas include Mt. Heng, Yueyang Tower and Dongting Lake, Wulingyuan, Shaoshan and Taohuayuan. Changsha and Yueyang are the state – listed famous cultural and historic cities. There are 4 national nature reserves. The tourist resource is “one east route and one west stretch”. The east route includes the Beijing – Guangzhou Railway Line and the valley of Xiangjiang River. The west stretch is the West Hunan with Wulingyuan as its center. The three tourist key cities are Changsha, Zhangjiajie and Yueyang. The seven key tourist zones include Changsha(the old city scenic zone), Wulingyuan(unusua mountains and rivers), the Yueyang Tower and Nanhu Zone, Nanyue, Shaoshan(Mao Zedong’s former home), Mengdong River(drifting), Mt, Lang(green river and red crag). The other tourist attractions include Zhuzhou’s Emperor Yan Maosoleum and Taoyuan Cave, Chenzhou’s Wugaishan Game Ground and Dongjiang River Drift, Taohuayuan, Jishou’s Dehang Folk Custom and the Old City of Fenghuang, Loudi’s Meijiang River, Yuanjiang South Dongting Lake Scenery, Taojiang Folk Custom, the Dong Ethnic Culture at Tongdao, Yongzhou’s ancient architecture, and the Shun Mausoleum on Mt. Jiuyi. The festivals include Dragon Boating Festival, the Forest Protection Festival, and the Fireworks Festival.

Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, is a famous historical and cultural city whose tourist resources are predicated on its historical heritage. Among the city's 20 or so major attractions are Yuelu Academy, Han tombs at Mawangdui, King of Wu Sun Quan's government archives on bamboo slips found at Zhoumalou, and Hunan Embroidery Institute.
