Yinchuan Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region
Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is situated in the center of the Ningxia Plain and has always been known as South China on the Desert for the green irrigated fields around the city that look like the South.
The old city was built during the Tang Dynasty, while the new city was constructed during the Qing Dynasty. In the 11th century, the Western Xia regime established its capital here and had created splendid culture as well as gorgeous architecture.
Yinchuan has many ethnic groups including Han, Hui, Manchu, Mongolian and Chaoxian peoples. Among them, the Hui people take a large proportion, they have maintained the traditional folk customs and life style.
With a long history, Yinchuan has become a famous tourist city. There are over 60 historical sites including mosques, pagodas, pavilions, temples, and imperial tombs, such as the Western Xia Mausoleums, Hai Bao Pagoda, the Nanguan Mosque, the Gao Temple and so on. Besides, Yinchuan also have natural scenery such as Helan Mountain, Sand Lake Scenic Resort and Shapotou, etc.
